Burger King Scholarship
The Burger King Scholarship is available through the Burger King Corporation and franchises. The Burger King Corporation is one of the most recognized names on the global market. There are over 12,000 locations around the world and is one of the largest American corporations. With the success of the business, Burger King’s founder James McLamore began the Have It Your Way Foundation in 2000. This is a non profit organization that raises money for many scholarships to be given to current high school students who will be attending a two or four year college or university in the following autumn. These scholarships are given to those students who plan on attending school full time and who meet the eligibility requirements.
Types of Burger King Scholarships
Burger King has two “tracks” to lead the individual towards the appropriate scholarship award. The first track offered is the Burger King general track which is open to the general public whom are current citizens of the United States, Canada or Puerto Rico. The applicant must be a graduating senior enrolled in a public or private high school or home school. The applicant must meet the GPA requirements of 2.5 or higher at the time of graduation. Awards given through the general track are given on a non renewable basis, which means an individual may only receive an award once.
The second scholarship option is open to employees or children of employees whom work for the Burger King Corporation or franchise. The employee or employee child applicant must also meet the criteria put in place for all general track scholarship applicants as well as additional requirements. This track is referred to as the Employee-Based Track. These applicants must also either be employees or the child dependent of an employee whom is employees at a participating store. The employee must be on the payroll at the Burger King location for at least 6 months. The GPA requirement for high school seniors is a minimum of 2.0 out of 4.0 scale. This scholarship is also available to current college students as well as those who have recently attained a GED. Employees and their children whom apply for the employee based track scholarship may also apply for the general track scholarship if they meet the requirements. They are then eligible to win either of the two but not both of the scholarships. Employee track applicants may apply more than once as long as eligibility is maintained and awards be renewed if selected.
Scholarship Programs for Employees
There is also an employee pursuing enrichment program such as a GED or certification. These are very helpful to those hoping to better their lives but are not ready or do not intend on attending college. The only requirements are that the individual is an employee of Burger King for the past 6 months at the time of the award to be given and are citizens of the U.S., Canada or Puerto Rico.
For the three James McLamore Burger King scholarships awarded, the applicants of the Employee and General tracks who have grade point averages of a minimum 3.3, are applying at four year school after graduation, have received a minimum score of 25 on the ACT or a minimum combined SAT score of 1700 may be eligible.
