Many people aren’t aware of the Walmart Scholarship program, but it is something that is offered to Walmart associates and dependants of Walmart associates who are high school seniors. As one of the biggest retailers in the world and arguably the most well-known, there are thousands upon thousands of individuals who are eligible for these scholarships annually. The scholarships are offered to eligible associates and their dependants who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend school. There are actually two scholarship programs available – the first is the Walmart Associate Scholarship, which is offered to employees who have been employed by Walmart for at least six months prior to the date they submit their application. The second is the Walmart Dependant Scholarship. This scholarship is available to the dependants of associates who have been worked for Walmart for at least six months prior to the date they submit their application, and who are a high school senior who plans to graduate or get their GED (General Education diploma) within a specified time frame. The scholarships must be applied toward a certificate program, two-year associate’s degree, or four-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

The first scholarship, The Walmart Associate Scholarship, is available to employees of Walmart store. This scholarship is available to associates who are any age, as long as they have already gotten their high school diploma or GED. They must also be able to show proof that they need the money. If they have other scholarships or can afford to pay for their tuition and fees without the scholarship, they are ineligible. This is designed specifically for associates who genuinely need the assistance. Unlike many companies who require that employees be retired full-time to be eligible for scholarships, Walmart offers their Associate Scholarship to both full-time and part-time employees. The only stipulation is that they must be employed for at least six months before they can submit an application. The other requirement is that the associate must be a legal resident of the United States of America.

One of the most generous things about the Walmart Associate Scholarship is that the employee does not necessarily have to stay employed by the Walmart cooperation to renew the scholarship. As long as they continue to meet all of the other requirements, they are still eligible to renew the scholarship until they no longer meet those requirements or until they reach their funding limits. To continue receiving the funds, though, they must stay enrolled at least three credit hours per term. They must also maintain at least a 2.0 GPA. If their GPA falls below 2.0, they lose their funding for that particular term. Something else that is incredibly generous of Walmart is that associates can use the scholarship program toward however many degree programs they enroll in, as long as they aren’t receiving two scholarships at the same time and they only get one scholarship per degree. For instance, the associate can use the scholarship to obtain a two-year associate’s degree in business, and then apply for and be approved for another scholarship later to earn a four-year bachelor’s degree.

Like the Walmart Associate Scholarship, the Walmart Dependent Scholarship is only available to legal United States residents. But recipients of the Dependent Scholarship do not have to be employees of the store. This scholarship is available to the dependents of employees, as long as that employee has worked for Walmart for at least six consecutive months from the date of the application. The dependents must be a high school senior who is planning to graduate within a certain time frame. If the dependent is home-schooled, they can also be planning to earn their GED certificate within that time frame. Like recipients of the Associate Scholarship, applications for the Dependant Scholarship must show that they have a genuine need for the assistance.

Unlike the Walmart Associate Scholarship, the Dependent Scholarship cannot be renewed. It’s a one-time $3,000 payment made directly to the educational institution that the recipient is attending, and can be applied toward tuition, books, or their dorm room costs. This scholarship is also not granted to every dependent that applies. There is a committee formed who review all of the applications submitted, and they determine whether or not the application will be approved based on whether or not there is genuine financial need, what the student’s academic history looks like, and their achievements in both school and the community. Once the dependent is approved, they must stay enrolled full-time as a freshman for the entire academic year unless there is an unforeseen emergency that prevents that from happening.

Walmart Scholarship programs are incredibly generous programs aimed at helping employees and their dependents the opportunity to further their education and therefore better their lives. The Walmart Associate Scholarship especially can be an enormous help to associates who would otherwise be unable to attend school. The Dependant Scholarship can help associates who have children going into college. Both of these programs show Walmart’s desire to reach out into the community and provide opportunities to further educations and to better the lives of associates and their families.
